My parents lived in Seaside while my dad was stationed at Fort Ord from '65 - '67. In the years that followed a few family vacations took us back to Monterey and always made a trip to Fishermans Wharf. Although we didn't eat at the Grotto every time, I clearly remember Sabu Shake and the clam chowder. Visiting the website brings back great childhood/family memories that I haven't thought about in many years!

When I was stationed in Fort Ord, I would come down once or even twice a month if I could afford it to eat. You see I am from Ohio and had only eaten what came from local lakes and rivers that we caught fishing, so when I got a real chance to eat real seafood I was thrilled. Your dad would make something different for me to try now and then, he got some items from across the wharf at the fresh fish market. This was in 1972. I intend to come back someday to Monterey for a vacation; it was the nicest place I had the chance to see. I am here to tell you my dinning at your restaurant will always be in my memories. Congratulations on a great father and restaurant.
